There are tons of ways you can save energy in your everyday life. Did you know that if chargers for devices such as mobile phones and MP3 players were unplugged when not in use, the UK could save enough electricity each year to power 115,000 homes? Imagine the money you could save on your utility bills and may invest some where else.

3. Be careful what you agree to
Many energy brokers do verbal contracts. This is where they record the conversation and that becomes a legally binding contract with the energy supplier. It is very important that as a business, you are aware that this happens and are careful about what you agree to. A good practice is to request a copy of any quoted rates in writing (by email or fax as prices can change daily) before accepting the contract. If done properly, there is nothing wrong with verbal contracts and they can save time too. You just need to be aware of what you are agreeing to.

4. Check terms and conditions for your new energy supliers.
Before you switch, check the new supplier’s terms and conditions carefully. A good broker/supplier's can also help to identify the key points in the terms. For example, how much notice will you have to give at the end of the contract? Can the supplier change prices during the contract or are prices fixed? A good broker can help you answer all of these questions.

Make sure when you are ready to switch your energy supplier

1. Uncover when your contract is due for renewal
In united kingdom most of the energy supply are in fixed contracts for their gas and/or electricity. That means you can only switch at the end of the contract period and you also need to give a notice by a certain gap before leaving the energy supplier.
It will always better to know Know details about your contract or deals specially about the due date for renewal which ensures you to put yourself in a position to shop around and switch if there are better deals elsewhere.

2. Give adequate notice to your existing supplier
Most energy suppliers have extends their contracts automatically at the end of a contract, if you have not given notice. You will automatically be switched over into a new contract, may be for one or two years in length depends on the energy suppliers. Finding out your contract renewal and the days of notice that you need to give. Don’t forget this notice day if you miss this deadline, you could be rolled over for another contract term.
Also ensure that you give notice in the correct way. Some suppliers will only accept written letters others will accept other method such as faxes or online application its totally depends on suppliers.

Saving tips to help reduce your gas and electricity usage

1. Price comparison
To make sure you are paying the best price for your gas and electricity, compare your suppliers with other energy suppliers regularly and also consider other tariffs and payments methods that can offer considerable savings.
2. Droughts
Ensure windows are doors are properly sealed. Draughts will let heat escape meaning you will have heating set higher and on for longer, therefore burning more gas.
3. Turn down the thermostat
Turning down your gas central heating by one degree will save you a huge amount and you won’t notice the difference, heating shouldn’t be higher than 22 degrees.
4. Light bulbs
Use energy saving bulbs where possible. Good light is important for working and reading but everywhere else replace dead bulbs with these bulbs to cut your electricity bill.
5. Standby
Turn all appliances off, don’t keep them on standby. A television left on standby will consume around 60 per cent of the electricity as if it was left on. If you are really lazy then try one of the plugs you can buy that reduce energy to almost nil when activated.
6. Full load
When using the washing machine or dishwasher make sure it is full. If you really need to wash only a couple of clothes use a reduced time function if your washing machine has it or hand wash.
7. 30 degrees
Washing clothes at 30 degrees will provide a good wash for your clothes, a higher temperature isn’t necessary. You can even wash at 15 degrees, give a try.
8. Boiling water
When boiling a kettle only use water that you need, so if it is only a cup of tea only fill to the minimum level.
9. Young family
If you have a young children they won’t be concerned with energy usage so do monitor their gas and electricity usage closely and encourage then to turn off computers and game consoles when they aren’t being used.
10. Energy grants
Speak to your local energy advisory centre. The government offers grants and help for those wishing to install energy saving devices.

There are numerous online sites available for making these comparisons. With the help of these sites one can take right decision about which provider should be selected to buy these services. But beware that some sites do not compare the prices of ALL the companies because not all companies agree to pay a commission to the comparison site. The site can offer its own incentive also. One simply needs to enter post code of locality or provide desired information about comparison that has to be made and then the website will come up with many suppliers offering lowest energy prices there. Hence, the providers are giving users affordability with many benefits making their deals worth to go for.
